so we did it!
We managed to get us two kids and a multitude of MEC backpacks to Paris and survived the whole experience!
We had a great trip...3 days in Paris...and our test run for backpacking with our 2 boys for Italy next week. Its loads of work...cause my little one can only manage for so long with his pack....and certain places do get terrible crowded and scary for little people....like train and metro stations. But they were troupers...and walked liked crazy everywhere...and even climbed all the steps at the Eiffel tower!
Paris was its usual beautiful self and actually very empty, I guess all the Parisians were still on vacation. We stayed in the latin quater which is a great area to hang out in...very close to the Notre Dame...and loads of great cafe`s and restaurants!! We managed to climb the stairs of the Sacre Coeur in Montmantre....and waled for miles from the The Latin Quater to the Eiffel Tower.
The only major problem was my hubby got food poisoning....again. I keep telling him to stay away from the lamb...but he never listens to me.
o here I am am...finally got myself settled in.
Life had been a bit slow for me...but I guess its what I needed...to take a break form life a bit...
England has been not the best of weather very wet....so we are stuck inside alot.
I did get the chance to go to Blackpool, England for Raks Brit and the bellydance superstars. That was loads of fun...and it was great to have the chance to Sam dance on her home turf!! Loads of workshops and lots of fun. I for sure got my Rachel Brice and Sharon Kihara fix for the next little bit!!
I also have discovered how to do a video vlog...
one of my students has posted some videos from my last show....so its nice to get them all into one place.
here's the link if you wanna check them out...

www.youtube.com/watch
K....
I ran into one of my neighbours who works with this lady who took one of my classes....
My neighbour was kind of to let me know, that this woman did nothing but bitch about me for about a half an hour...everything from I'm too skinny to teach bellydance to I take to long to explain or teach a move. She mentioned to my neighbour that she would have said something but she didn't have the heart to tell me why she dropped my class. After my neighbour told me all of this...i asked what her name was and where I taught her...and she told me...and I don't remember her at all...which makes me sad...cause I do really try to remember everyone. I guess this is bugging me because its like one of those things of you can't win...people complain if you go to fast...or they complain if they go to slow....you can't win. My biggest thing with teaching classes is making sure people are doing things safely and are protecting their bodies doing actions they have never done before. I guess my thing is if you can't come to more than one class to give it a try....maybe you shouldn't be trashing my name all over town....or here's a thought...maybe you can ask me in person to speed up the class...and I can help make things more challenging if your bored...its called communication...I don't know if you have a problem unless you tell me. Its the only way I can fix things...to help improve your experience in class.
anyways end rant...I guess I need to create more opportunity for people to have access for questions or concerns....
I just don't like the fact people are trashing my name all over town. That is bad news to my reputation.

Had a great time in Italy, really beautiful country with such great people that live there! Our first stop was a small town called Como, north of Millan on this beautiful lake. Its a beautiful lake surrounded by the run up mountains to the swiss alps, with gorgeous Villas surrounding the entire lake. I guess this is where all the rich and famous vacation, because there are alot of famous Italian folk around here. Got to see the Geaorge Clooney's double villa lot he is renowing on the lake as well. For this part of the trip, my husband was working at a conference, so i had a great time exploring by myself. You take water taxi's wherever you go, its a big lake, so I was on a boat alot. Managed to get myself up to the very north part of the lake, took 2 hours on the ferry, and had a visit in the village of Bellagio. Bellagio is the inspiration for the Las Vegas hotel version, and I can easily see the similarities. The people who constructed the big hotel in Las Vegas really did their homework, but the village is much more beautiful. (and real!)
After a couple of days in Como, we hopped the train and headed for Venice. 4 hour train ride...but worth every second! Venice is very touristy place, so I am glad to have been there in the shoulder season. But despite the tourists Venice holds its charm, with canals, gondolas, cafes, historics sites, operas, shopping, and beautiful churches. My feet are still broken from the non stop walking, I loved it! venice was the place where I celebrated my 30th birthday, and was treated to an opera and dinner.....very spoiled indeed! Venice is very much unlike anywhere I have been, and we enjoyed it so much!!! Unfortunatly our stay was for only 2 days, but I would like to go back someday! And yes the place is sinking......at night when it was high tide.....St. Marks square was under water from the tide coming up from the storm drains......about 2-3 inches in places. Its a dangerous place.....spents loads of money there buying the famous Murano glass of Venice for our loved ones!
Off to Millan for our last day in Italy.....we got there kinda late, so did not get a chance to check out the famed shopping scene of Millan. My husband was thankful!! But had a great dinner and strolled the streets checking out the sites, and to my husbands dismay some window shopping....more like window drooling......Fendi bags are beautiful to look at!
So a great trip alltogether...the only downside we had, was my hubby lost his wallet. But I did have enough sense to bring my cards as well to Italy.....silly husband....we have found his wallet, he dropped it at the conference. So a great trip, and it was nice to spend some quiet time with my husband without kiddies........but it sure was great to see our kids again!
It would be great to see everyone this March 30, 2006 at the Norman Rothstein Theatre in vancouver for the Sounds of Solace tour!!! So excited!! Tickets are $23 at the door or purchase from payapl on my website www.bellyfringe.ca. This event will also feature the lovely bellydance talents of Nila,Lava,Belly Belly Hip and Rachel and Sooz of Blue Damsel. I also have caught rumour that we will be treated with a guest bellydance performance with some beautiful ladies from Australia. They are touring with the group from Rakahsah in California.
Hope to see you there!!
So as usual....
whenever there is a workshop it really does take a couple of days for me to register everything. It really was such a great weekend!!!
I think my favorite part was the fact my firends Dina, Linda and Sam where there as well. Sam was lucky enough to get a spot last minute, it has been great to create a frienship with this woman since we first met in Toronto at the Suhaila workshops....Dina it was cool to have there as well. Dina has been one of my students for longest length of time. Over time we have become good friends so it was lovely to experience a workshop with her. And Linda....she has overcome so much...and I was so proud that the first workshop she has ever taken is Rachel's. And she did it too!! yeah Lin!!! you would never know that the girl has had major back surgery, just a very short time ago!! These woman really made my weekend!!! It was fun to have our sleepover...eat and eat some more. late night slurpees. All night dancing...and then some more food. pancake breakfast and stuffed full with a greek dinner in Steveston. I think I am still full!! And then there was the actual workshop!
As usual...it never ceases to amaze me on how much I learn in any given workshop. That is why I love bellydance so much. The learning curve is endless!!! You cannot get bored! Rachel's workshop was no exception....practice journels...staging....beaking down choreos...creating choreos...drills....new drills!!!....some new yogo poses......This weekend was jammed!! And could we forget the show!!! Wow! From Rachel to BBH to our sisters in Seattle...to our local girls...it was a great show. And I had the pleasure of experiencing the show as the stage manager. Lady Ra was my queen of the booth....kiss.
As usual I feel blessed to have experience such a great weekend. I have truly learned so much.....that I cannot possible put everything into words.
Bigs thanks to Amanda and BBH, I am so very grateful. There work really paid off.......
Suhaila Weekend....
For me it really does take a couple of days to comment on the workshops I take with Suhaila, there is so much info overload that you need some time to compute it all.
Unlike October, these workshops really gave me a great overview of the whole concept. Right from Jamila's format to Suhaila's level training. It was really nice to see how Jamilla's format has been incorpaorated into the whole vision of Suhaila's school. It is different but not....So thursday was a lovely intro into Jamilla's format. And I can honestly say that this format is still very current and relevant in today's bellydance world. We worked cymbals all day, with the format and that alone kicked my butt!!! We did a lovely choreo as well that included zills....wow!!!
Friday and Saturday Toronto got thrown into the Suhaila format full tilt. because unlike doing a level specific intensive...you got an overview of level 1,2, and 3. All I can say is thank god I have done level 1, because I would have been totally lost!!! But it was great for me to see where I will be taking my training next...what I have to work on for level 2 certification.
Sunday was a drum solo choreo that I believe was from the dances with the Sultan video...I might be wrong. But the choreo was created when Suhaila was in her 20's....it kicked my ass. Very technical, but still very danced based. Still trying to figure some of the combo's!!!
The whole weekend was a great success...Toronto can be a very dramatic dance community...and I think they really enjoyed having Suhaila there....even Yasmina herself was at the gala show....
My favorite bits was having the lovely Rachel Brice in the workshops with us. She was sweating it out with all of us and only bowed out to prep for the gala. I can say she is really a lovely warm individual...that spent time meeting and talking to people. Her performance at the gala was amazing and dynamic and Vancouver is in for a great treat in January!!!
Suhaila was as always her lovely warm self...and it was my favorite to see the dance community of Toronto to really accept her and her format. People really did set aside egos and came to dance. I really have to mention Tiffany as well, she is Suhaila's right hand woman...Tiffany rocked the house. That girl did not stop once. When she was dealing with the Suhaila gear she was up there assisting in the workshop. Having so many woman in a workshop it really does help to have another person to ask questions to. Suhaila came down with stomach flu on saturday...Tiffany did not miss a beat and went on teaching for Saturday. In fact she busted us harder than Suhaila!!! After that tough day...Tiffany went on to the gala...performed a lovely set and still was managing the Suhaila vending at the show! So....a big salut to that gal!!!
The workshops where amazing the gala striking, but my favorite part was meeting the people!! I made some great friendshops with Christi form Missouri and Sam from the UK. it really was lovely to bond with these two beautiful woman who are very talented in ther own right. Christi has amazing creative vision, with a unique twist for bellydance...her troupe is mixing it up huge in her small community in Missouri. And Sam is amazing..this woman has taught herself how to bellydance by watching Caraleena videos...but has incorporated her own twist on the style. She performed on a lovely set..that blew the crowd away. She is travelling from the Uk for a whole year and hopes to get to SF to train as well. She will be here for Felico's....you guys are in for a treat!!! These 2 special women made the whoe experience the icing on the cake!!! I was so fortunate to have them there to go threw something like that together!!! I look very much forward to our future friendships together!!!
Well that s pretty much it....oh yeah...the secret did get out...Suhaila will be rocking in Vancouver next year November 18,19, 2006. I am working on the many details.....I hope to see you all there!!
Well it has taken me awhile to blog about Portland...
but the experience was so overwhelming it took awhile to compute everything. I am proud to say I passed level one and will start working towards my level 2...I hope that I will be able to visit the Caravan studios for a level 2 intensive..spring???anyone???
The weekend was amazing!!! Suhaila is amazing!!! Tiffany is amazing!!! Renee and Rachel just fabulous!!! These woman really cared for and listened to all the needs of the woman attending this workshop. They would help, nurture and coach us threw the frustration of what are bodies were doing and push us tho the next level. I can honestly say I enjoyed every second!! Was I sore, yes! Did I get frustrated, yes! Did I freak when it was test time?, Yep! But the support and care of these woman really pushed me threw and challenge myself.
Meeting Suhaila, was a dream come true. I have the utmost respect for this woman, of her vision and dream for bellydance. It really was an honor to meet her.....and it was an honor to have Suhaila sit down and talk with me and get to know me and who I was. In fact she did this with everyone in the workshops in Portland. I feel blessed to have taken the workshops in Portland and to have had the opportunity to work in such an intimate setting!!!
I am very much looking forward to Toronto...this time the workshops are more choreo based and not level training...so I get to see a different aspect of the format..which excites me!!! it will be a great weekend coming up!!
***Pic taken of Suhaila @ Pashwas in Portland,October 2005
I cannot wait!!!
On Wednesday night I will be in Toronto, getting my butt kicked by Suhaila...AGAIN!!! I am really excited to meet Suhaila and Tiffany, and I might have the pleasure to meet Kendra as well. These women are true dance inspiration, you cannot help but to be in awe when they execute any dance move! Another plus is to have the opportunity to see Rachel Brice perform at the gala!!!yippee....also I get to meet the fabulous Audra of Cleopatra's our lovely hostess, and to top it all of I get to meet Diana from Buffalo...one of the lovely ladies from the EDBD tribe.wow! I will take loads of pics and take miles of notes...an look forward to blogging about this awesome event!!!
**Picture of Tiffany at Pashwas,Portland Oct.2005
Do you see that,
the fall fae are here....waiting to dance in the crisp yellow leaves
waiting to see if we can hear the song....
The moon is crisp...lighting the midnight air
the season changes...blink your eyes
the leaves are falling
I am dancing
we are dancing
faeries whisper their silent song
guiding the old women down her path
watch watch...the light is gone
we light our selves
hoping to catch
a
faerie whisper
Am I ready to get my assed kicked by this women???? No. No one is. I cannot wait, I am totally freakin' out.
She is a legend.....if my ass needs to be kicked it is lucky to have Suhaila do it. We will see if I survive the first round in October.......and we will see if I will be crying for more in Toronto for November.....
Yippeeeeeeee
My husband is in Finland with work....which means I am solo flying for the week. Its tough glide though when you have two kiddies. I truly appreciate all the single moms out there!!! I really do not know how on earth you keep your sanity......obviously, my husband is my partner in crime. he is awesome with the taking over the fort thing so I can rush out and teach all my dance classes. Really, I could not do all of this without him......
weird week in my books....I guess, more just a weird moment that I have been living most of the week. On tuesday, going out to run errands, I was driving and came across this cat that had just been hit by a car. Pretty gruesome, and was still moving....stopped the car and got out. The poor thing was done by the time I got to it.... the guy who hit the cat came back....he was very upset. So what to do with this cat....i managed to get some plastic bags out of the car and scooped it off the road. Now what. A couple of us decided one of us should drop the cat off at the nearest vet, the poor thing did not have any tags, maybe it would have a tattoo??? I wasn't paying much attention and needed that part of the conversation repeated over a couple of times, I was still holding a warm creature in a plastic bag for god's sakes!!! So that is what I did, the now owner of one dead cat now had the responsibility to bring the dead cat to a vet. Which I did, with only one problem. My children where in the car, and witness the whole thing. Needless to say I was very upset.....and speechless. It is a tough thing indeed to face the questions of a three year old. What to tell him.....it took me a while to answer the questions.....I still had to surprise an unsuspecting vet clerk with a dead cat. Really, I wish people would properly place identification with their pets. This was someones pet, it was a lovely Siamese cat, well taken care of. No tattoos nothing, no one to claim this animal. except me the person who dropped off the poor thing in the first place.......The truth, is what I told my son....what else......it breaks my heart to have to start teaching him the realities of the world. I feel I am stripping him of his innocence. That kills me. I feel he has had to learn what death is to early. (my dog died in april) It has made me cry every night....but the truth is what I need to tell him. I have had the TV off this week. I need a break from the truth.......I really am looking forward to my husband coming home. My kids need there dad right now too, I need him as well. You really do not know how lucky you are in the world.....its just been a tough week.
nspiration,
from my friend Luna.....
I lost my litttle dog in april, and we really missed her on vacation. The tent was not the same with out her chainsaw snoring....and her gaseous fumes stinking us out...or bad breath that could make paint peel...... This is my ode to Penny the pencil the most stuborn, grouchiest dog around..........
Penny may your fuzzy blue pillow always be with you. May there always be a clean carpet you can poo whenever you wish. May you have all the milkbones you like, may you never have to eat normal dog food again. May there always be goodies flung by children for you to catch. May there be no kids around so you could have some piece and quite to cudddle. May you never have a bath again...you hated the water. May you never have to be groomed again. May there be someone to carry you over puddles, so your feet don't get wet....and a stroller to hitch a ride in when you get tired of walking even when its only to the store. May you never have to get tied outside again, and be able to come into every shop. May you always have a ray of sunshine to lie in the livingroom trying to keep warm when it rains.....may you always have a lap to sit in.....
May we be able to cross paths again, may we have each others spirit to carry us threw.......
penny we all miss you even simba, and especially kaia....

Wow,
we got lucky in Tofino.....sunshine for a whole week!!! Very weird, it always rains, and it did.....the day we left. packing up 2 kids and a muddy tent truly a test! Tofino as usual was beautiful, but very busy. This town has changed so much in 10 years!!! It is really growing....unfortunatly some of the local news is heartbreaking. There is a first nations community in Tofino, sadly they have had 65 suicide attempts and 2 deaths due to suicide since Xmas. it seems the people are confused and depressed, there main industry (fishing) has been closed down. There also seems to be the issue as to were they fit into a community that has become such a tourist based town. Alot for me to think about from a place I love so dearly.
This year I made loads of connections within the community, meeting more locals chatting and getting to know there families...I love meeting new people to hear there stories. My husband got in loads of surfing.....he would have like to have surfed more!!. This year after many years of being a chicken and boogie boarding only, I have decided that I am now feeling comfortable with the ocean enough to give surfing a try. This is a big deal to me...I am a prairie girl so being in the ocean wigs me out a little.
So next summer I will enroll myself with the local surf school, Surf Sister, and start practising with Tony's board. Who knows I might be able to get up!
This year it was great to see my good friend Michelle and her family to come out to Long Beach, it was great hanging out on the beaches and relaxing, laughing at our kids!! Hopefully, Linda can come out next year!!!
The greatest thing that happened on vacation this year was Tony took us out to do some whale watching for our 7th wedding aniversary. We have never gone out before......we got real lucky and got to see a beautiful humpback whale. One of my personal favorite creatures on the planet! It really was special, we had a great guide who kept the boat engine off for over an hour just so we could see this awesome creature. He came up and gave us a beautiful tale fluke as well. What a great day!!!!
Wow, whole month off !!! I needed it, but I am looking forward to the upcoming dance season. Alot will be going on, and it will be busy!!!
my husband of course is already planning his next great surf vacation........
Just making a pit stop in Vancouver....just came back from Hawkins Lake in 100 mile house BC. What a great time and beautiful location!!! Time was well spent with great friends and all there beautiful children....there was 18 people at this one lovely cottage....talk about a tribe of people! My favorite part was waking up every morning to the eerie sounds of loons. Wow, I have not heard that since Manitoba, which feels like a lifetime ago. I also had the opportunity to see my mystical friend Arwen....what a lovely location she has created for herself!!! And yes I spent alot of money in fabulous gallery, really who could resest!! Arwen has all the gear for bellydancers and faeries alike!!!.....
Yeah!!!!! I'm going on vacation.....we totally need a break!!!! We are going up to 100 mile house until Aug17th, come back then out to Tofino for about ten days.......ahhhhhh Tofino......really you can almost relax into a perfect coma of zen and nature. The only reason why you don't just float away is because you are constantly trying to figure out how you can sell everything you own and move to Tofino to live in some million dollar cottage by the sea!!! Not knocking the cottages they are really beautiful. My lovely husband likes to have fantasy's about becoming a surf board maker or carver...really he would try carving a surf board first. Just so he could engineer it into the perfect design.Ahhh tofino.....makes you want to grow dreadlocks and never shave again....no place else in the world like it!!! can't wait!!!
What an evening!!!! It took alot of work but the event was a great sucess! Michael Beach warmed up the crowd in this beautiful intimate setting of the Alegria Cafe in Steveston, BC.....Lava soon got things pumped up with her amazing style and grace! And what a drum solo!!The crowd needed a breather, and participated in a lively silent auction to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation....good times!! The second set started and The BOTB wowed the crowd with there awesome fusion style of Middle eastern music.....next dancer was me, and boy did I have my work cut out for me!!! It started out dancing to the famous Aziza tune, then I ended up having a shimmy dual with one of the band members...remind me to eat before an event!!! Thankyou to The Brothers of the Baladi, I hope they had a great time, and i look forward to having them back in Vancouver!!
just came back from TQNW, I had a blast!!! My body still is broken, from all the workshops, but I love that broken feel. You feel like you really worked hard.......I learned so much!! I met loads of awesome people.... and got to meet Rachel and Ansuya!! 2 very beautiful goddess's!! The best part of TQNW was a chance to spend some time with my very best friend, Linda. I'm a busy mom, so to get on on one with yur best friend without children hanging off of you is always a special treat. It is imporant for me to get some mommy time away from my family, just so I can sit back and truly take a deep breath and realize how trurly blessed I am in my life!!!
