So sometimes you have a very much loved belt, it will get really worn out with so much use...what to do?????
Reuse,Recycle and update it of course!!

I loved this belt so much...I made it last year....but really it had seen better days. It was really falling apart, the beading was catching on everything. Sequins were falling off, it was snagging on everything!
But I so loved that belt!!

I tried doing some repair work on it...but in the end...I needed to pull it apart and redo it. Now, some would say why not just make a new belt...yeah I could. But I really enjoyed pulling it all apart and recreating it with the same idea but with some new features.

Plus when you wear in a belt.....you kinda get attached to the feel of it. I can't really explain that....but there you go. I still have my one of my first belts, its called Old faithful.....everytime I look at it to pull it apart. I just can't do it yet...its a wee bit too sentimental.

Anyways my craziness aside....ta daaaaaa...

So I had orginally made this belt last summer...and really, never got the damn thing done.

I threw it together for Tribal Umrah last year, and really made it workable. But not finished. So finally I got it sorted out.

Daily Rituals.....

At this point in my life, I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to travel, dance, meet other dancers. Which means you get to hang out alot with other dancers. Which is really really great.......but the fun part of getting to meet all these dancers from all over the world, is when you hang out together you really see a pattern emerge every morning with how dancers get on with their daily rituals.

But the funny part of this is you only get to see half the ritual.....or a very stunted sleep deprived version of that daily ritual. We kinda do a run down of our daily rituals with each other.....cause lets face it, at big events in Europe we are usually all staying together.....and really we must all get along:)

So what happens is this lovely tally of figuring out out who are the early risers, the late to bed folks...coffee drinkers, tea drinkers...shower in the morning person...or midnight shower goer. What emerges from this is a mutual understanding of each others needs...and to help each other out with those needs:))

But stillllllllllll,
I'm curious what other dance artists full morning rituals are???

What gets you going in the morning???

Ok me??? Tea.

Yes Tea.
First off.....my day does start at 5:40am....yes I'm nuts. But it seems for me the only time I can manage to get a full yoga practice in without DISTRACTIONS!!!....no kids, no computers....no sewing projects taunting you to finish them.

So I ramble down to my kitchen and get the kettle going.....then hit my mat for my daily yoga dose.

Life is crazy.....but then the next 2 hours...is a full sprint and extreme exercise in patience to get my kids to school on time....

with that done....I wander back into my home at 8am.
yes. more tea.
maybe some dishes....but tea first.

Once I get that outta the way, I find I need to calm down and really just create some clear thinking space for myself.....

I start by lighting some candles....and getting some incense....just creating some positive presence around me.

I have some favorite areas within my domain......little areas that make me happy to visit....and move forward....
Once thats done...I hit my work table....
and get on with it......I usually like to answer my emails in the mornings, blog, short facebook cruise.....
and then DANCE.
Most important don't forget that part:)

Everyones life is super busy.....
sometimes you don't realize how important all your little daily rituals are....maybe you don't even realize what your little daily rituals are....
Sometimes the perfect day doesn't happen every day as well...

But don't forget to do the things you love....surround yourself with things that make your happy....create, dance...and have fun.

The Sketchbook Project-Limited Edition

Sooooooooooo I found this really cool artists project called the The Sketch Book Project.....

The idea is you sign up, they send you a sketch pad, you fill that sketch pad with your creations...send it back...and then it goes on display at The Brooklyn Art Library....

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....so yeah I signed up.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.....what have I done?

well, I don't really consider myself an artist in any way.....more a dabbler in all things general....I never went to art school. Its the one biggest regret of my life. I'm interested in textile arts and media mix arts...so I dabble with no focus at all.

I want to do this to push myself.....plus such a really cool public art display. I really want to go here and check out this display. But heyyyyyyy it goes on tour too!!

Susan's Belt

Well its been a long time coming.....but I got it together and finished Susan's Frankovich's belt!!!

Last August while I was visiting Croatia, Susan had given me a pile of goodies that she had been collecting to use in creating a delux belt.

So pretty right???? I was very much inspired to create something for her that had loads of grey and silver tones, with black accents. Something sparkly, but vintage using coins and afghan studs. This is what I came up with!!

I hope she likes it:)))

Secret Feature Friday- Giuliana Angelini

Ok this weeks Secret Feature, Features the lovely lady Giuliana Angelini.

Giuliana is a very strong Tribal fusion dance performer and teacher from Munich, Germany. Her style is unique with strength and elegance, and a very clear passion for what she does.

She has been traveling alot threw Europe, performing at many festivals.Last year Giuliana came in second place in the international Tribal competition at the Hanover Tribal Festival.

Her latest project is a video project. The project features Guiliana performing beautifully in an amazing industrial backdrop, entitled La Valse.

The video has beautiful cinematography, well edited, and beautiful dancing. Whats unique about this video is you can here the audio of Giuliana's costuming, and movements with the floor. Which is interesting often you don't get that point of view in professionally produced Tribal Fusion videos.

Armchair Expert Tuesday- The Smoky Eyes

Last year I got to meet these lovely gals at the Bellyfusions festival in Paris...and to say the least they surprised me in the most delightful way.

The costumes they had on, was this crazy mix of candy and raver girls.....but that's not what caught my eye. What caught my eye was the really amazing musicality, creativity, and extreme fun element.

I do think that's what these girls love to do is have fun, and their energy on stage can be infectious!

Tribal Mind

Recently I was introduced to this amazing blog by dancer April Rose while we were hanging out in Split, for the Split tribal Fest. I hadn't seen this blog, and was immediately drawn into the, Tribal Mind. I was curious about the writer of the blog, for a couple of reasons. One, I was interested in what tribal was like in South America, and two, who was this gal behind the Tribal Mind? The Tribal Mind is written by the lovely Ana Harff, and she agreed to do an interview for my blog!! Enjoy!

Ana, tell us about yourself; where you live and yourdance?

That’s a long history… Right now I’m leaving in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but I’mactually Brazilian, from Rio de Janeiro. I’m here for 2 years already, left thejournalism college there and came for study Arts at the University of BuenosAires so I’ll have a few more years until get my degree. I was near of finishingJournalism College, but there are some times in your life that you just need abig change and for that, of course, you need big choices. So I decided that wasthe time to change everything in my life and just went to another place,another routine and culture and try to live by in what I wanted for so long, arts!Isn’t that wasn’t possible to do that in Brazil, but things happened so fastthat in few months I basically landed in Buenos Aires for a new start. I missmy friends and family very much, but I’m happy with the choices that I made formyself. For all of this, in the past two years practice tribal dance got in asecond plan while I was trying to adapt into this new life. I’m now just takingclasses but not doing presentations, but my plans for the next year is get upmy ass of the chair, recover the rhythm and sweat a lot!

When and why did you start dancing Tribal?

I was doing bellydance classes in 2008 when I accidentally discover tribalfusion. I was looking for some videos at YouTube and then I see this video ofZoe Jakes with Yard Dogs Road Show dancing with only a guitar and drums playingin the background: I was overwhelmed!!! I got addicted to watch her dance and thoughtfor some time that it was only her personal style of dancing, not a dance styleand I was pretty sure that once I got older, if I was able to dance just alittle like her, I’ll be the happiest person alive! Some days later I discover throughher what Tribal Fusion was and just fall in love! So I and two other girls ofmy bellydance class, Priscila Miranda and Cris Dantas decided to study tribalfusion and we make the Panambi Tribal troupe (Panambi in the Indian Brazilian languagemeans “butterfly”) , which lasted only a few months. Later I met the girls ofShaman Tribal Co. that where dancing tribal since 2006 and in the end of 2008 Ihad my first presentation as a member of Shaman Tribal Co. That day was a daythat I’ll remember forever. One year later I moved to Argentina, and right inthe same time Priscila and Cris join Shaman Tribal… That was very ironic! And I’msooo happy for them and for the Shaman troupe that is growing each day more andmore, they are such an amazing girls and human beings! I’m forever proud of beingpart of their lives!

Can you tell us about your dance community where you live?

I think I’m not the best person to talk about tribal in Argentina due tothe short time living here. Anyway, I feel more connected with Brazilian tribalstyle even being away from my girls. I have followed the growth of tribal dancein Brazil and is amazing to see the amount of talented girls that are comingfrom all corners of the country with so many varied styles of dance! I can safelysay that not only the number of adepts of tribal has grown over 100% in thelast two years, but also their skills and qualities. There you’ll findeverything: from ATS, ITS, Gothic, Tribal Fusion Tribal and the wonderfulTribal Brazil, a style that mixes tribal fusion dance with dozens oftraditional dances that we possess. The most incredible project of TribalBrazil that currently exists is called CaravanaTribal Nordeste (which means Tribal Northeast Caravan), where four groupsof different cities of northeastern meet regularly in a host city and doworkshops; not only of tribal style, but also of Brazilian folkloric dances,showing where this rich cultural mix we have came from. And they not only givedance lessons, but also filmings, interviews, workshops for making costumes withtypical Brazilian cultural materials, and finishing with shows to the public... Anything better than this? My only regret is being away from it all.

You have a great blog regarding the topics of TribalBellydance, can you tell us about how you got into blogging and what is thecurrent goal and inspiration behind your blog, Tribal Mind?

I decided to create Tribal Mind just after some months in Argentina. As I saidtribal dance was in a second plan in my life not just because of the studies, Ihad just left my dance company in Brazil and I also got in a very bad accident inthe first month leaving in Buenos Aires: I broke two bones of my left ankle andhad a surgery to put pins on it. After one month in a wheelchair, physicaltherapy and crutches, I started to walk again, but still wasn’t able to dance, Ihad to wait 6 more months, and then I had this huge need to feel connectedagain with the tribal community in any way possible. I thought: “So if I can’tdance, what better way than creating a blog? Writing about what I love.” Thenext day Tribal Mind born! And the explanation of the name is quite cliché: I wasn’tdancing, I cannot do it, but at the same time I couldn’t take the dance out ofmy mind… so that’s why is “Tribal Mind”. Sound very silly that story today! Mymain inspirations are pretty much everything that I found beautiful and validto create any kind of inspired thought that one can have! I believe that aperson that is a true artist has to go through several experiences in the areaof arts and never, never stop in just one thought/passion. Is not a matter of “evolving”(I don’t like this word so much, sounds like the things that came before wasn’tgood enough), is a matter of being curious and passionate about life, eachsecond of it!

At the moment it looks like your working hard to have yourblog translated into 3 languages, why do you feel it’s necessary to be doingthis?

Is not that I feel its necessary, I just have this idea of trying to reach asmany people as possible that have an interest in tribal(fusion) dance. There areso many girls dancing in Latin America, and a lot of them don’t speak English andmost of the important articles about tribal are in this language. My first ideawas only to translate those articles to Portuguese and post at the blog, butthen Tribal Mind started to grow, and visitors from other countries started to visitit. I was doing the posts in 3 languages: English, Portuguese and Spanish, butthat is a LOT of work, and I didn’t have time to write 3 times the same thing,it’s exhausting! English is a language that most of people have access, and Portugueseis my language of birth, so I decide to have a bilingual blog in those twolanguages. Sometimes I still publish things in Spanish too.

I have noticed you have your own Atelier, what are yourinspirations for creating your own work that is available to the public?

I have two projects going on: the first is apartnership with Shaman Tribal Atelier, which the clothes are made by anartisan in Brazil, Regina Braz, that is the responsible hand of most of the costumecreations in Shaman Tribal Co. She sends me the costumes and I sell them to thegirls here. The second project is brand new and I’m kind of anxious and hopingthat works! Is my line of tiaras! I was always fascinated by storiesof ancient civilizations and other times in history. I spend hours looking atpictures and reading books on the subject. I'm pretty nostalgic and romanticabout it! And never had much talent for sewing, but I have for the fitting ofparts. In this last birthday I bought a book about the life and art of AlfonsMucha, who is undoubtedly one of the artists who inspire me most. Thumbingthrough the pages I had the push I needed. I went shopping and bought somejewelry and chains, went back home and started putting everything out to see ifI was able to create something. And it worked! So far I have done few, but I’llnot stop here, I have many ideas boiling in my head, and want to give life asmuch as I can!

Finally, can you let us know what your current and futuregoals as a dancer and artist??

This is a tricky question ... At the moment I'mvery happy to see how my plans are moving along well, some better than planned!Obvious that as humans we always think we could have done more and better, butnow I am aware of my limitations, some physical, some financial to achieve someprojects. I don’t have any great ambitions; for now, after my accident, I haveplan things little by little. As a dancer, the only hope for the upcomingmonths is to have the strength to move forward and dancing, something I didn’tlose by a whisker. I always think that everything happens for a reason! I’mvery grateful for all the people who passed through my life and allexperiences, good and bad, that I had. And as an artist, what I hope is toalways be studying, practicing and of course, sharing knowledge with as manypeople as possible, and hoping to continue falling in love more and more forthis amazing art that is the tribal dance!

What I Wore Wednesday - Fall Sweaters

Recently I found this very awesome sweater from the thrift store. Super soft cashmere...yummy. I was a bit hesitant because of the 80's design on it, but I gave it a chance and tried it on. Yes, it works! It really suits my slouchy shirt style that I dig for my day to day wear, plus super fun colors!!

I wanted to rock out the 80's look with my very favorite super huge hoops!!

Arm Chair Expert Tuesday-Eliran

This weeks Armchair expert Tuesday is posting about tribal Drum Solo's.....

A tricky subject.... its quite difficult to keep the look of tribal during a drum solo. The elements in drum solo music, can turn a very calm dancer into a wild arm waving trying to keep up with the drumssss kinda dancer. I tend to fall into this category myself....I always loose my cool.

Recently I had the chance to take a workshop with Eliran from Israel, in Valencia Spain. I havn't done a drum solo workshop in a long while! Drum solo's tend not to be my favorite thing to be doing...so I wanted to give his workshop a try.

First thing.....yeah... I suck at drum solo's.

Second, I clearly need more practice at this type of skill! Eliran's workshop had many difficult layers, hits and locks that require alot of focus and skill to achieve a great drum solo. It was really nice to check out his workshop and get a good feeling for his style and technique...plus I admire his ability to stay calm and cool during a drum solo.

VLC Tribal Fest

HIYA!!!!
Good grief I have been away for a week, and unfortunately I didn't have access to internet very often.....so I have been a bit out of date!!!
Yikes!!....but I have so much to share!
I had the amazing opportunity to be in Valencia for a whole week, teaching, work shopping and performing at The Valencia Tribal Fest in beautiful Spain. Hosted by Nuria Gallego.I must say, loads of fun was to be had! Amazing workshops, the shows were topnotch, and I am so happy to have met so many new friends on this journey!
Pictures????......well of course!!!I had so many that I really had to collage them all up, or this would have turned into a very long blog post!!

First day had everyone in tech at the theatre for the Alice In Tribal Land show. But of course afterwards we squeezed in some coffee, sight seeing and shopping!

That evening was hafla time. We had the opportunity to really see what the local BD community is up too in the dance scene here. Lemme tell ya, all the dancers that evening blew everyone away! Such beautiful talent!

First day of workshops brought us over to the event centre at the Valencia University. Workshops, workshops and more workshops!! Really its a dancers heaven. The line up of teachers was amazing!!

The evening brought us to our theatre location, where all the guest teachers jumped into prep mode to get ready for the show, Alice In Tribal Land. Super great show. Each of the teachers took on a character based on Alice in Wonderland. I got the Cheshire Cat.....I was a wee nervous about it. I chose to imitate the Cheshire smile with glow in the dark paint and black lights. Yeah it worked!!! whoot whoot! The show was a great success, and it was super fun to try something different for performing!

We worked hard with the workshops and shows...but it didn't stop us from having some late night silliness happen.....alot of late night silliness. Maybe too much...I'm still tired....yeesh.

Monday night of the festival had us all performing again at the VLC Tribal Party Show.....again with the mind blowing performances from everyone!!!

Valencia was so beautiful and warm...really got to soak up the last bits of sun before having to head home!!

Yeah team....our last dinner all together before we all gotta head our separate ways. VLC Tribal Fest was a blast!

I cut my hair.....short

Well, short for me.

Its the first time since I was a small kid that I have had my neck exposed to the elements. My hair needed the boost.....it was super fried, and not very healthy....sigh........Good bye long hair.
I guess it gives me more opportunity to purchase more neck apparel accessories to keep me warm for the winter.

anyways....it'll grow back right???? I feel like Molly Ringwall.

Its funny I actually do go out and photograph all the challenges, write them down in my journal so I can remember the list when I'm out and about. Photograph with some type of focus and purpose. So I'm always happy that I am able to achieve the challenge for the week.....it fills some type of achievement from within.

Holy moly I love this sticker! It was stuck to the top of a garbage can, I spotted it randomly throwing out some garbage.

My son spotted this frozen web, while we were walking across a bridge, this beauty was right under the hand rail. Only someone walking at the level could really have spotted that. Someone like my 7 year old:)

Crispy foggy fall mornings, always can make fall colors pop!

This one is actually from the summer driving through Croatia, we spotted some fire bombers putting out forest fires.

I just thought this was cool....folks are bunkering down for winter, and this lovely patio owner is still rocking bright colors for the coming winter.

So I got this amazing tweed skirt at the thrift store for $5, but I wanted to give it a quick and easy upstyled boost that was unique!

I adore buttons, and I have a huge collection, so any excuse to bust them out!

Grab your supplies and mark your button placement with some straight pics

Get creative, add some beading and sequins with your buttons!

create a couple of cute button bunches!

This skirt had the cutest pleat, so added a touch of lace and ribbon to accent the pleat more. Throw on some cute stockings and shoes and voila! Super easy, fast and cute:)

Recently hit the thrift store, and found some great Thrifty Finds for $20!

Yes its true, i live near the Alps in Germany, thus some type of weird attraction to corduroy pants, but I'm going to pair those up with some pretty boots and tights. And a lovely score with a pretty wool skirt!

So proud, it gets cold here so this wool tweed skirt was a great find!

Recently I found some really awesome thrift store finds, including a really beautiful tweed skirt! I couldn't help but add my own twist on it. Bellydancers are not very good at not being flashy!! The weather was really just so beautiful the other day, so I got outside to take some pics of my finished product. I'll post soon a quick DIY on the skirt, but in the meantime...enjoy!! My 7 year old son took my pics this week:)

I had the pleasure of meetings these gals at Tribal Fest Budapest last year....and we spent alot of time in late night chatting....and me pulling pranks on them....but thats another story.

They have a super high energy style for the stage that is fun and quirky, that fits their super playful nature!! last year they released this performance story style video that really is just so awesome not to share!

Flea Market Finds for $25

Recently we had a really great flea market where I live here in Germany. I was really thrilled to be able to go, because for whatever reasons there are not very many thrift stores in my town. Also I have troubles finding out when there are flea markets, due to being constantly lost in translation, while I slowly learn German. But hey, I made up for it in spades, and came up with some really great finds all for 25 bucks! You can't beat that!

This was my favorite find, so cute!

yeah me!!now I gotta find some cozy places in my home for all these things!

Secret Eat n Treats- Sweet Potato Bake

Now now, don't be surprised. But I do actually cook every once and awhile. None of these "recipes" have any type of Martha Stewart qualities about them. I'm really not prepared to hunt down ingredients that no one has ever heard of on a sunday farmers market. Mostly my skills comes from looking in my fridge and tossing it all together. I really don't measure.....anything.....nothing..... no really.

So yes that's right, I don't bake. Because that would require reading a recipe and following instructions on measuring. Also another quirk....I really won't touch raw meat.ever.

I can hear my close friends laughing.

They have witnessed me cutting entire raw chickens with a knife and fork.

Anywho, this is kinda like a first date testimonial...laying out the cards so to speak.

Ok soooooooo....if your like me. And your busy, which we all are...you have already hung your head in your fridge hoping dinner will make itself.

Pretty much you can make this with any type of veg you enjoy....today I chose to keep it simple with mushrooms, onions, garlic, red pepper, and sweet potatoes.

I'm really just gonna assume you know how to cut you veggies...

ohh exciting.

grab all the rest of your ingredients...

brown sugar

salt and pepper

honey or if your Canadian, maple syrop.

cinnamon

herbs in a jar (that's the fancy part)

olive oil

My hubby's family came for a week from Canada, which was a blast! Whew!! it was a busy week and we got alot in...of course I got some pics!! this particular set is in the Alps in Austria....we took a gondola up to the top of the mountain...and hiked across to our hutte.

In case you don't know, a hutte is kinda like a lodge, they have food, beer and lodgings, just so you don't have to drag all your tent gear around with you. And spoil yourself to comfy sleep inside. Its a pretty cool set up:)

Sometimes you have to perform a difficult piece that is hard for you to place on the stage. For whatever reason its to emotional, its hitting way to many nerves....your nerves.

The music haunts you, you dream it...its in your head while you drive.

I didn't really want to perform this music, it was hitting to close to some sensitive nerves for me.

But I needed to do it, it was a key to some emotional growth that I was going threw at the time.....

Choreographing the piece made me angry, I was a complete jerk to my family while I was working with this piece. I wanted to scrap this dance so many times.

Then I discovered that Kami Liddle, had also danced to this piece last year. The ladies in Barcelona nearly got a frantic last minute email to change my music.....
But I knew I couldn't.

This piece has been performed twice, and I will never place it on the stage ever again. Nor will I teach it. It was a relief to be done with it, and to allow something to rest deep inside of me.........finally.

Looking back at the video....I really thought it was a very bad performance that I placed on the Tribal Umrah stage....but now I can look at it with a more gentle heart....and honor this particular process.

Armchair Expert Tuesday.....The Amano project

This weeks Armchair Expert is featuring the troupe The Amano Project. A collective of dancers from the Netherlands and Belgium headed up by the very talented Tjrada of the Uzume. The troupe is a fairly young troupe only coming up to its 1 year anniversary. Members include....Joyce Benschop, Mattias lauwers, Fieke Dieleman, Stephanie der Zwaal and Tjarda van Straten.

The style is modern bellydance....at the very cutting edge of fusion bellydance. I'm a huge fan due to the fact of the troupes amazing music interpretation, interesting lines and formations, and lovely simple clear bellydance movement executed in a very creative way. Exactly what this genre is all about!

The troupe has the unique ability to create frames or pictures that can capture a moment in time....and the story of that moment is up to you to create. Gorgeous!!

Ok, so postcards from my edge. So I like to write postcards. You might have received a postcard from me recently. Why postcards. Well there is something attractive about not committing to an envelope. Something sublime about getting your thoughts down, in a brief synopsis. And always something beautiful about actually writing.

Imma a busy gal.....kids, dog, husband, dance, art, projects, costume making...blah blah, endless list right?? Just like every other mom I know:)

Ok now check this.....take your quirky postcards, from random findings.

Do not go out an specifically collect your postcards....because then, this will not happen. Just randomly collect cards, on your day to day travels. Really it doesn't matter what they look like. Ok now....heres the hard part. Sit in a cafe, or your local handy dandy Starshmucks...and write someone. Drink your coffee....and write anyone.

Ok whatever, don't write draw a goofy picture if you need to.....but most important....enjoy your coffee out in public. In the presence of other adults...and be a normal gal without your kids....and did I mention, Enjoy your coffee. I swear to you, its a mini bliss therapy.

You don't need to write 5 postcards....1 postcard...

now here's the cool part...don't date it. This way it leaves you the option of sending it. Or sending it whenever.

The most important part is getting out of your mommy mode or your everyday life mode....be somewhere in public, and totally have a moment for yourself. Now you don't have to write a postcard. Its what I like to do....but hey, read a magazine. Draw in your sketchbook. Write down your photo journal ideas....whatever.

Just treat yourself...you can do it. yes you have time. make time. I know you gotta get groceries.....but do it for your sanity.........

Secret Crafty Moment

I'm trying to stay on top of my projects!!! gah!! there are so many of them.....so to make sure I kick my own butt....I created this feature...Secret Craft Moment...

really its just to help me stay motivated.

Soooooo....if you see anything I do here that you wanna ask questions about feel free to do so...I'll try to give a you clear answer:)))

Ok last week I was out and about with my friend Emily, and we popped into a designer jewellery shop that had these gorgeous big beaded necklaces on display. So we were oooooooing and awwwwwwwweing at this beauties, when my friend Emily tried one on. I could tell she was in love, but I had to give her the look. Ya know the look....don't you dare buy that!! we can make it!!! like seriously the necklace was well over 200 euros. The price tag was the only thing that made her wince, I could see her considering forsaking her children's university fund, for the necklace.

But yeah us!!! we found a very cute beading store here, where I live in Ulm, Germany. With the idea in mind to create a huge "pebbles" necklace for way way less........heres what I made....

so cute right...and you should be proud....its not bellydancer inspired in any way...I know shocking. But hey cute I can wear it with everything!! And did I mention way way way less than that silly store. I forgot to take a picture of my friend Emily's creation...I'll pester her the next time she is around....

Well here we are again......Secret Feature Friday!

I wasn't sure if this was going to be popular or not, but it has proven to be quite successful, thanks for stopping by!!

Okayyyyyyyy....

This weeks secret feature is going out to Tribal Fest Budapest, and to the event organizer, Judit Virag.

This years event will be held in Budapest, Hungary November 11-13th 2011

Special workshop teacher for the festival will be none other than the fabulous Samantha Emanuel!

I believe Judit is also trying something new this year.....a type of workshop slam....were several teachers will teach 30 minute workshop slams on a group of students. Its a cool concept that will get students to try out some varied styles in a very short space of time!

Of course there is the show!! which will be on November 11th....as well as a Tribal Fusion Dance competition that will be held during this jammed packed weekend!
The show will feature local talents from Hungary, but also the amazing dance talents of

Eliran (Israel)
Violet Scrap (Italy)
Martina Crowe Hewett(CA/D)
plus many other fabulous performers

Einstein Marathon

well not my life.

so you can guess I don't run....

pretty much never. Its not that I'm outta shape...running is against my personal philosophy in life.

plus it kills my body, I'm more a yoga and swimming gal.

But I'm not one to begrudge my husband...he likes it, and does it for a stress relief. This year he turned 40 so he decided he wanted to run the Einstein Marathon here in Ulm, Germany.

He did pretty good....considering he didn't train like crazy for it.

I kid you not, that is a beer. They served them up for the race participants at the finish line. Tony let me know he also had a beer halfway threw the race at a drink station.

He does suggest to folks not to board a plane to China the day after a marathon....

Being Invicible has its Drawbacks

A back flip off of a trampoline, does have it drawbacks. I spent most of my day hanging out in the emergency room. Yes he broke his arm....hairline fracture straight across the radius lengthwise.

Now, some of you may know this....but I have slight accident prone tendencies. I personally have logged many many hours in hospital waiting rooms. I was also a bit of a trouble maker, all these truths were to the great dismay of my mother. She always wanted me to have a girl, to feel some type of pay back to her many hours of grief.......that didn't happen. But I have been blessed with a daredevil son.....and I have a feeling that this might just be the beginning.

oh and double whammee, hubby is in China on a business trip.

yes I can hear my mother chuckling from here.

Club Bellydance

The Latest installment of the BDSS hit Vancouver, Club Bellydance at the Orpheum last Sunday. The Stars of BDSS included Sabah, Moria, Sabrina Fox, Stefanya and Victoria.

But the exciting part of the evening was that local dancers were also included in the show to showcase what they got as well.

Cool concept that brings the BDSS to a smaller stage and more intimate settings....but also includes the dancers from their local scene.

Ok so who were the local dancers from Vancouver???

Vancouver was represented well with some of my favorite dancers and friends around......Ala Nar, Floreo, Sisters of Alchemy, Belly Belly Hip, Luciterra, Ginger Blue, Sabeya and Johara

ok check it,

first up, we have Canada's very first ATS troupe, The lovely ladies of Belly Belly Hip. I love watching this local ATS troupe.....they really have developed so much over the last couple years!

next up we have a a great tribal fusion troupe, that has taken Vancouver by storm with their unique fast paced choreographies. featuring the talents of Gillian Cofsky, Laura Albert and Naomi Gallagher.

they did 2 performances that evening, a duet and trio

Ok , for something a little bit more juicy juicy and Egyptian.....these ladies have always been a personal favorite of mine, and good friends, the lovely Ala Nar

Bringing it up a notch with sassy line formations and some Raks Asaya....Sabeya and the beautiful ladies of Johara....

Rocking out to a very awesome sword piece, in such a smooth and seamless execution...to one of my favorite tunes, its the gorgeous trio Floreo.

Goodness I love watching group sword pieces, and Floreo really delivered that one!
It makes you wanna go practice using your sword more!

Ok so this week's selection comes from Russia...and it features the lovely ladies of the Russian Tribal Mafia. I have heard about these gals here in Europe, and I do hope to meet them sometime soon!

The video features the troupe performing ATS with a live band, (sorry don't know the name:) But what impressed me so much about this video, is the music video quality of the video. I love seeing the band, the audience and the dancers all featured at once. It really gives a great feel as to what a live performance feels like, without taking away from the performance aspect of the video!

And hey, the lovely ladies of The Russian Tribal Mafia are performing so beautifully!....

I love watching old videos of bellydance performances from the past, vintage bellydance:) Its kinda a hobby to go roaming threw Youtube to search out all the classics and greats.

What made me pause with this particular video is, would this be allowed to happen on Miss America 2012? Now I know nothing about Miss America, or whether they even film the "talent" part of the show anymore for judging this pageant. But somehow, I don't know......

This is not wanting to start a huge debate on Miss America...just a small observation.....

Anyways, I enjoyed this performance.....I think its super cute...and a certain style that you don't see anymore:)

Yeah! a bit late today I know sorry.....it was so nice to spend my day outside enjoying the sunshine. Catching the last few warm days of summer!

Ok this weeks secret feature is going to be an event that I havn't attended yet, but very much looking forward to.....
Its the Valencia Tribal Festival, held in beautiful Valencia, Spain.

This years edition will be held October 28 to November 1st, 2011, and is hosted by the University of Valencia.

Secret Armchair Expert Tuesday

Ok so first, lemme explain the title. I have been on youtube wee little while now....and with that you get to experience a myriad of comments of how people react to you and your art form on youtube. Sometimes hateful, but alot of good...but this was always how I would joke about any negative comments. That these reactions would come from the armchair experts of the internet. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo, just making light of that, in the way that I do, this feature, will happen every Tuesday. It will never ever ever be negative in any way.

Its my way of supporting my fellow tribal dance artist. By helping show off your beautiful videos of your amazing performances. A wee little internet Zagraret from a fellow dancer.

Ok sooooooooo this weeks armchair expert feature comes to us from Las Vegas, the location , but the dancer is the lovely Nicci from Abbotsford, BC. Just would like to mention, Nicci, has dedicated the performance to Margie Peters, her fellow troupe mate, who is fighting a difficult battle with Cancer.

Split Tribal Fest

This past August I had the amazing opportunity to attend a great festival called Split Tribal Fest in Split, Croatia.

First off!! who could resist going?? Split, is a beautiful historic city with many sites to see right on the Adriatic Ocean. So pretty!. Second, who could resist?!? The festival was hosting some really great teachers, and 3 evening shows with the amazing backdrop of a beautiful castle as the stage.

Attendees were treated to some pretty amazing workshops, featuring Elizabeth Strong, Samantha Emanuel, Manca Pavli, Frederique, April Rose, Croatian Teachers and promoters Suncica and Natasha and yours truly. Despite the incredible heat, students had a full roster of workshops to attend!

The festival was jammed packed with activities, an opening party, 3 nights of shows and a after party. People were kept very busy!!

But the highlight for me was getting the chance to see the shows in Split! The backdrop was just to amazing! The stage was an open air theatre set into a historic castle, right in the middle of Split. Very beautiful! The special part of the shows is that they are free for people to come and watch, so its a great chance for dancers to perform in front of a non-bellydance audience. Plus a great way for people to see what tribal fusion is all about. ok i'll stop raving check out some pics....

On a personal level, its an amazing experience just to be apart of it all. I get to meet loads of new people catch up with old friends....and really just talk shop with other dancers and artists with what their new projects are. Its always so inspiring!!
