Sorry I havn't gotten back to you.....

Well there you are....

Life kinda took me by the balls.

Finally I feel some sort of slight sanity....only by slight margins but there you go. Every time I wanted to write I just would have the feeling some huge life pressure cooker bearing down on me.

So we moved to San Diego, California. That was a big overhaul and life change. My husband has found a job here, and we made the choice to move back to North America. It was a bit of a crazy experience, the stress really took a toll on our family. Adjusting back to North American culture was a bit tough on everyone...and its taking a bit of time. Also this is our first time living in the USA, and yes its different to Canada. It just is...Canada and the US are different and thats ok.....but we had to adjust to this nonetheless.

I have to say this round of moving was our hardest, and really truly I don't wanna do that again for a while. The good news for us, is we finally found a home to live here in San Diego, actually we are north of San Diego in San Marcos, but a nice community. Closer to my husbands work. House hunting was a real process and logistics to buying a house here was.....lemme see..... complicated! But we have our house, and for the first time in my life I own palm trees. Loads of them. I'll post pics of our new place at a later date:)

I had to make some pretty big life decisions....mainly regarding my hip. A couple of MRI's later the health of my hip needed some serious rest or surgery. So I have went with rest and alot of physiotherapy, to see what I can do with this hip. Its helped a bit....but needless to say taking a break from dance to rest my hip has been driving me a bit cra cra. I'm looking forward to building my strength back up and to start training again....mainly to start creating again. Living outta boxes for almost 6 months has taken a toll....

And the biggest thing I'm struggling to blog about today is something deeply personal. I have gone back and forth on letting people know. But mostly I feel that sharing might be better for me.

Most recently this crazy journey I have been on has also included the fact that I have been pregnant. Surprise. Believe me it was a surprise for me. Next week would have been around the three month mark Last week was our first ultrasound, but the results were not good. It turns out I was diagnosed with a Blighted Ovum, there was nothing I could do, and was told I would miscarry. Several blood tests later confirmed all of this....and I scheduled my surgery. But my body and nature beat me to it....and I have been resting heavily at home for the last several days.

I'm not really wanting to get into the nitty gritty details, because I'm actually still dealing with the whole situation. Mentally and physically.

I have had some time to really reflect a bit on life in the last couple of days, sometimes life just tosses these things at you, and really you have no choice but to sit down and reflect. Life has been a bit rough around the edges lately....but you do realize just how precious everything is. And really there is no need to be having a panic attack about the small stuff. Im just grateful for what I have in my life. And really truly its a full plate.

Next week, I make my journey back to Vancouver, and then to Tribal Fest In Sebastapol. I look forward to seeing everyone again...to be with my dance family and friends....to heal... and to dance.....

much love,

Gudruns Belt part 2!

So I'm leaving Germany soooooo soon!! Its crazy, I'm packing like crazy, which drives me crazy!

I still had this belt on my things to do list, I wanted to make sure I got it done before I left Germany!
The lovely Gudrun asked me to make 2 belts!! you can see the first mermaidy belt here.....

Like I mentioned before, digging around Gudrun's costume supplies we came up with 2 fabulous belt concepts. This one has a more far east flaire. Loads of purples and golds. She had this very beautiful sari fabric to use for the base that had loads of platinum and gold threads. So pretty!!
Ok this is what I came up with!

Coins galore!
Centre piece

loads of hand beading!

the medallions!

Yeah!! its done!! I hope hope she likes it!

Now back to packing for our big move to San Diego....about 2 weeks to go!

In Flanders Fields

Very often with all my travels, I am usually confronted with the question "How long are you visiting from America?" Which always comes the very polite reply "I'm Canadian actually" with a quick smile. This doesn't bother me and I'm quite used to this nowadays. But sometimes it does give me pause to think, well what  exactly is a Canadian? Living afar from your country gives one a quiet and fierce pride over their homeland.

But somehow this quiet pride seems to gets amplified at this time of year during November.

Recently my family took a holiday trip to England for some family time, and we decided to make the trek across Europe. Tony decided while on the way to the channel ferries, we were going to make a pit stop in Ypres, Belgium. This beautiful little town is the home of the In Flanders Fields Museum. We wanted to make a stop for our children to have this experience of what Canadians hold so close to our hearts.

I had some personal misgivings. As a mother sometimes you have small panic attacks about what your children are exposed too. I worry alot about how much to expose such young minds too. But I'm so glad we did this. The kids were amazing, asked great questions, and we had such a lovely day!

The In Flanders Fields Museum was incredible. A completely modern and very interactive museum, suitable for all age groups. A museum dedicated to ALL the soldiers who have fought for our countries. The displays were amazing, mixing multiple uses of multi media, actual artifacts, pictures, interactive displays, uniforms, and very much something that can be achieved and digested on a 3 hour visit. The committees and town who have organized and put this museum together are brilliant.

You could climb up to the bell towers to see the town of Ypres from above.
The boys really enjoyed that!

They had displayed various memorial locations throughout the local skyline.

You couldn't take pictures inside the museum, but really if you ever have the chance you should go!!
Here's the link to this museum

Callum spotted some cute tourist rental bikes outside the museum...

Poppies being the international symbol of Remembrance .

At the end of the museum, we looked at our watches and thought if we can we might make it out into the countryside to see one of the very many memorials that surround this little historic town. We got our directions and decided on one of the largest memorials for fallen soldiers. Tyne Cot.

This is what we really wanted to show our boys, just so they could really understand the scale. Its hard for little boys to really understand this. Tony picked up the In Flanders Fields poem at the museum and read it to the boys.

its a very silent and beautiful place.

I was a bit of a mess, it really is just how you imagined it to be.
I was so proud of my boys....really they asked really great questions, and learned so much. Tony had many stories to tell them. He is a bit of a history nerd when it comes to WW1 and 2...so it was really great for him to see this as well. Tony served in the Canadian Reserves. So this is something he has always wanted to do.

I'll leave you with this....the famous poem by Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae
He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Alexis Helmer, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres.

Happy Remembrance Canada.
 Lest we Forget.
